Samsung One UI 8 to bring Decal Shader support to One UI Home

Samsung One UI 8

Samsung is busy cooking up something new even before we’ve gotten a good look at One UI 7. They’re already onto One UI 8, and it’s going to bring something called a “decal shader” to the One UI Home launcher.

This might sound fancy, but basically, it’s going to make your phone’s icons and animations look a lot cooler by adding textures and effects that match your wallpaper.

Smartprix found out about this by snooping around in some beta apps for One UI 7 that Samsung put out. It seems they’re planning for One UI 8 to work with Android 16.

Since Android 16 is coming out sooner than we expected, Samsung might be rushing to get everything ready. This decal shader thing could be their way of making the phone’s look even better with this new Android version.

Android 16 is rumored to be called “baklava,” which is a sweet treat from Turkey. It’s kind of fun for Google to use food names, isn’t it? We expect Android 16 to be out in the second quarter of 2025, so there’s a wait ahead, but it’s something to look forward to.

While we’re waiting for all this, other phone makers like Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, and OnePlus are also getting their ducks in a row for their own updates with Android 16. They might start beta programs so people can try out the new stuff early.

So, even though One UI 7 is just starting to show up on a few phones, Samsung is already thinking ahead to make our phones not just work better but look awesome too with One UI 8 and this new decal shader feature.
