Samsung’s One UI 7 brings ‘Super HDR’ feature to disable bright HDR content

Galaxy S24

Samsung’s latest update, One UI 7, adds a new feature many of us have been waiting for: the ability to turn off the super bright HDR content on your phone.

HDR, or High Dynamic Range, makes pictures and videos look more vivid, but it can be too bright, especially at night when you’re trying to watch something in a dark room.

One UI 7 introduces a new setting called “Super HDR.” With this update, you can choose to turn off this bright HDR display, making everything on your screen less glaring.

Before, you could only do this in the Samsung Gallery app, but now it works across all apps on your phone. Whether you’re scrolling through Instagram or watching a video, you can make the screen easier on your eyes by toggling this setting off.

Finding this option is simple: just go to your phone’s Settings, then to Advanced Features, and there you’ll see the Super HDR toggle. This setting affects any content in the “Ultra HDR” format, not just photos from Samsung phones but from other devices and apps too.

However, there’s a small catch; you need to restart the app after changing the setting for it to take effect. Right now, this update is only in Beta on the Galaxy S24 series, but Samsung plans to roll it out to more phones next year.

If you have one of those phones, you’ll soon be able to enjoy your screen without the harshness of HDR when you don’t want it.
