New leaks suggest that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra might not be a big step up in the camera department for fans hoping for major changes. A well-known leaker Assemble Debug shared details from what’s claimed to be the phone’s internal files.
Here’s the scoop on the camera setup:
- Main Camera: Stays at 200 megapixels with the ISOCELL HP2 sensor.
- Ultra Wide Camera: Gets a big boost to 50 megapixels with the new ISOCELL JN3 sensor, up from 12 megapixels in the S24 Ultra.
- 3x Telephoto: Remains at 10 megapixels with the Sony IMX754 sensor.
- 5x Telephoto: Keeps its 50 megapixels with the Sony IMX854 sensor.
- Front Camera (Selfie): A 12-megapixel ISOCELL 3LU sensor.
Most of these cameras are the same as last year’s model, except for the ultra-wide, which has been significantly upgraded. This matches an earlier leak by Ice Universe, confirming what we might see in January 2025 at Samsung’s launch event.
The new ultra-wide camera with 50 megapixels should capture more detail, matching up with cameras like those in Google’s Pixel 9 Pro. It also comes with a brighter lens (F/1.9 aperture), which could mean better photos in low light, fixing some of the issues noted in the S24 Ultra’s performance.
While the hardware might not be all new, Samsung usually brings some software and AI enhancements to the table with each new model. We’ll know for sure what’s new when the phone is officially unveiled.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is anticipated to be unveiled at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event, which is expected to take place in January 2025. Specifically, leaks suggest a possible announcement on January 22, 2025, in San Jose, California.
