Google Messages to let you delete RCS chats for yourself or for everyone

Have you ever sent a message in Google Messages and then wished you could just vanish it from existence? Well, good news! Google is gearing up to give us that “oh no, take it back!” moment with RCS chats.

In the latest sneak peek into Google Messages app version 20250131_02_RC00, Android Authority spotted something juicy: Google Messages is planning to roll out a “Delete for everyone” feature in line with RCS Universal Profile v2.7, announced back in June 2024.

Currently, when you delete an RCS chat, it’s like a magic trick where the message only disappears from your side—leaving the recipient still chuckling or cringing at what you wrote. But soon, you’ll have the power to make those messages disappear for everyone, just like in WhatsApp.

Google Messages isn’t keeping it hush-hush. If you delete a message, the recipient gets a little heads-up saying “Message deleted by its author.” Now, does this make the feature less appealing or more transparent? I’m curious to hear your thoughts! Should privacy trump transparency, or do you like knowing when someone’s trying to erase history?

New Features Peek:

  • Delete for everyone – Say goodbye to your digital faux pas.
  • Delete for me – Just clean up your own space if you prefer.

The code hints at this feature but doesn’t spill the beans on when it’ll hit our phones. Given how far along they are, I’d say we won’t have to wait long. But, hey, Google loves to keep us on our toes, right?

Keep your phones ready for this update, and remember, with great power comes great responsibility… or at least the ability to pretend that typo never happened!
